I note, however that the reports >note that it is very good at the smaller apertures. > I am curious as to the source for this allegation. The 1.4/50 Summilux-M is a wonderful lens and is quite satisfactory wide-open. Other lenses MAY exceed its performance on any given optical parameter, but I don't believe any other lens of like specification is as satisfactory across the board, >> Marc, on the Internet there are several sources of test reports by various sources. One is PhotoZone, which contains a summary of some of the test reports. There have also been two reported summaries of tests of 50 mm lenses in the past couple of years on the net. There was also a post on this forum during the last couple of weeks about a test of the new R 1.4 being better than the old 1.4. While I am sure the present M 50 1.4 is satisfactory to many users, I am interested in a sharper lens at 1.4 and 2.0, as well as the smaller apertures. Tom Shea
