Hi David,

You might want to check out Stephen Gandy's site for lots of info on
the CL, CLE and related lenses. =20

I think your first post asked about the 90mm lenses. There were 3
versions of this lens: the Leitz Elmar-C and Minolta Rokkor-C versions
for the Leica CL,and the Minolta Rokkor-M version for the Minolta CLE.
The two CL versions were both made by Leitz. All 3 have the same
optical design, but only the CLE version has the same focusing cam as
a Leica-M lens. The CL versions have a steeper cam that theoretically
could cause focusing inaccuracy, though most LUGgers who use CL
versions on their M bodies have no focusing error problems.

The Leitz/Rokkor CL lenses were not multicoated; the Rokkor-M lenses
for the CLE were.=20

There were also 3 versions of the 40mm/2.0 lens, but in this case only
one was made by Leitz. The Rokkor versions for the CL and CLE were
made by Minolta. The same lens coating/focus cam issues apply here,
with the CLE Rokkor-M being mulit-coated and M-cammed.

The 28mm/2.8 Rokkor-M was introduced when the CLE was introduced.
Built in Japan by Minolta, multicoated and M-cammed.

All of these lenses are compact and sharp. In both the US and Japan
the Leica versions are usually more expensive. I've been thinking
about getting a 90mm Rokkor-M myself, but for some reason the 90mm
here in Japan are usually a lot more expensive than in the US.....

Cheers!

PB
