Danny, the Hexanon 50/2,4 is better at 2,8 than the 50/2,8 Elmar (new). It is
a six element lens so slightly better performance can be expected ( at least
wide open). In the rest of the range (f4-f16) it is no better or worse than
the Elmar 50/2,8. I prefer the 50/2,8 Elmar(it). it has a smoother focussing
mount and also the best "focus" feel of any lens I own. Very quick to snap
from close to infinity. It also is available in black and has the cutest hood
made!
The Hexanon has a "chrome' feel to it, the finish is very bright, it is
difficult to read f-stops and distances in bright sunlight. The focus is
smooth but not as good as most M-lenses and a far cry from the Ricoh 28/2,8
GR-1 in Leica screw mount. It is also larger than the 50/2,8 Elmar(it). It is
a very credible product from Konica and I congratulate them on it. I have
heard that it is available in Tokyo for about $475-525 (US$) and that makes it
really price competitive.
Danny, you should join the LHSA, in the last issue of our quarterly magazine "
Viewfinder" I did an informal comparison between the Hexanon 50/2,4 and the
new 50/2,8 Elmar(it),
