The Angineieux 70-210 3.5 was supposed to be a really good lens. Leica
actually imported them to the U.S. for a while.

Zeiss had an older 80-200 f/4 lens that was probably the best zoom of it's
kind ever. But it was very difficult to make and I think I heard that only
25 per cent of them made it out of the factory. Around 1980 it cost well
over $1,000 in Canada (where I was living at the time). It also focused so
close you could almost touch the front element to the subject and still be
in focus. Hard to come by now, but I'd love to have one. Guess the Leica is
a good substitute.
