You have to get a permit from the Capitol Police or Architect of the
Capitol's office to use a tripod on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol or
inside the building. Capitol Police have a knack for being there the
instant tripod feet touch the ground.
Fred Maroon, a Leica photographer many of you may know of, did a beautiful
color book on the architecture of the Capitol a few years ago. He shot it
entirely with R gear, by the way. He has incredible stories to tell of
being hassled about permits, even forced to tear down hours of tungsten
lighting, because of police confusion.
