I use a Polaroid Sprintscan 35+ quite a bit and I like it very much.  
I haven't compared it side-by-side with the Nikon scanner, so I 
can't help with that; but I would call myself a very satisfied user 
of the Sprintscan 35+.  Polaroid service are also excellent at 
answering questions, etc., if you have any when you're installing it.
