Yabbut in the good old days people got paid smaller numbers of 
dollars.  Inflation.  In fact, the Leitz metal finder doesn't cost 
much more in constant dollars than it did then, and the other ones 
are downright cheap.  CDN$90 in 1967 is about US$391 today.
