Tom you have expressed far better than I am capable of doing how I feel 
about the use of zooms.  I know when I had only zooms on my canon system 
instead of looking for shots knowing how a certain lens would frame a 
shot I would stick the either 20-35 or 80-200 on the camera and say "I'll 
be able to get it with this lens".  I think that thinking like this, for 
me at least, kills some of the creativity of photography. The zooms are 
great if working news, but for me at least I like having to make a fixed 
lens work.  It forces you to actually look at what you are shooting, 
concentrate on light, composition, and angle.
