Well, no. Scale focusing works perfectly well with a lot of lenses. With long lenses, it works if you are taking far-away pictures clearly at infinity though the narrow DOF of these lenses means closer work is a pain without a tape measure! But what about 21mm lenses and the like? There, DOF is so great that scale focusing works like a charm. I scale-focus my 20mm Russar without a problem. And I have the M42 adapter from the Leicina, and shoot Russian and East German class from time to time on my M's. It works: you just have to be careful.
