Subject: Minilux flash question

Does anyone know how the Minilux calculates its flash output? I want to find
out if [a] it measures its own reflected flash or [b] it bases its flash
output on subject distance. In the former case I could tape a filter over
the flash and I would still get the right flash output. Anyone know?
