Ah, Paris at any time. There was a big retrospective exhibition at the
European Centre for Photography this spring, I dont know if it is still
there, but they have great shows. Also all the FNAC stores have
photoexhibits. Pick up a copy of the french magazine " Photographie" or
"Photo", they usually list all the exhibits as does the daily paper "
Liberation". Maison de Leica is a camerastore on Boulevard Beaumarchais (
Close to the Place Bastille) that caters to Leicaphiles. Stocks most
everything and has some good stuff in the used department.
Best photographic bookstore is " La Chambre Clair" on Rue St. Sulpice (
between place Odeon and Eglise St Sulpice. They stock now and used photobooks
in several languages and speak english to boot.
This is Paris, best place for a glass of wine is a small winebar on Pont
Neuf, it is called Henri IV, it on the tip of Isle de Cite', right on the
bridge. Wine by the glass, Poulin's bread and a cheeseplate will keep you
going for hours. Also check the exibition space at Les Halles, there is a
photographic centre there too. Paris is very much geared to photography and
the "Mois De Photo" in Oct/Nov allows you to catch 80-100 exhibits as well as
pick up books, catalogues etc. It is also one of the most photogenic cities in
the world, as well as a place where you never are far away from good food,
wine etc.
