Rob, Sarcastic answer: the 2-lug bodies have 2 lugs, and 3-lug bodies have 3 lugs. Originally, the M5 had two strap lugs, both on one end of the body (the rewind-crank end). They are not normal Leica strap lugs, but very big--like squared-off belt loops. You can thread a strap directly through them. The camera body hangs sideways on the front of your body. Later, they decided that the camera didn't look strange enough yet, so they added a third lug on the opposite end, so that you could hang it normally if you wanted to. The third lug is lower on the body than the top lug on the other end, so it ends up looking very asymetrical. Only wimps hang their M5s normally. The CL has somewhat similar lugs, and also hangs sideways. There are no 3-lug CLs. - - Paul
