To me there is almost no visual difference between both (100 ASA Ektachrome slides or b/w enhancements). To me the 2.8/35 Summaron is disappointing (compared to the Summicron): sharpness, contrasts, colors. 35 mm: The older Summicron >28/2.8 Elmarit M vs. the older 28/2.8 elmarit > Both are extremely sharp up to 5 or 7 meters. Past this distance I was rather disappointed with their performance. It's definitly below the summicron 35 mm quality, and significant: Since the lens has a lower angle than the 21 mm, the background quality is more meaningful to the whole picture composition. I feel this aspect important, because in my perception the 28 is more related to the 35 mm than to the 21. 28 mm: I would take pics (slides) with both lenses, and decide from their result. - -Alf
