Stephen, this simply isn't true: the Leitz family, from EL I on, were
dedicated to making money. They were as profit-driven as any other
businessman. Ask Emil Keller: he worked for them in the 1930's and again
after the War, and knew them all intimately, being a frequent guest at the
mansion.

The present Leica concern is making the most reliable, toughest, most
durable RF camera yet produced. One biting example: through the M4, Leica
all but insisted on an annual service for their cameras -- that is, the
cameras were constructed with the idea that once each year a technician
would go over them and perform a CLA. The M6 is built with the idea that
no regular services will be performed. Quite a change, and quite a feather
in the cap for the M6.
