The problem is that the Leica M has not only one finder system but two of
them: The finder itself and the second system for the focussing. Both have to
be exactly of the same focal length in order to provide the split image. P&S
(and the Contax G) cameras have zoom finders which work totally independent
from the distance metering system. Therefore I do not believe that a Leica M
with zoom finder and split image would be technically possible - at least not
at a price less than 5000$ and at a size of a current M6 (or the M5)
