I don't think that Leica fools anybody's eye when they state that contrast is more important than resolution. This is the way the eye perceives reality and can easily be demonstrated. It's like the observation that certain color combinations are better visible than other color combinations. Just compare a picture made with the old collapsible 50mm Summicron at f2 with a picture made with the recent 50mm Summicron at f2. The old Summicron delivers the sharper picture (lps/mm) but the picture from the new Summicron is more pleasing to the eye due to higher contrast. Gerard Captijn, Geneva, Switzerland.
