Subject: stupid editing in messages

The contents of the Digest V1 #231 breaks down as follows:

4-line title.

5-line header and 2-line trailer for each message.

Eric Welch: two lines of attribution (which doesn't say who wrote the text
quoted, just "you"), six lines of quotation, four lines of comment, six
lines of signature.

Daniel Cardish: three lines of attribution, this time identifying two
different people as "you", 11 lines of quotation going two levels deep,
four lines of comment, five lines of signature, three of them blank.

Arnold Don Abravanel: one line of attribution, again only identifying the
writer as "you", 60 lines of quotation, one line of comment ("Jason Loved
your story." that was all), two lines of signature.

Michael Reichmann: four lines of quotation, 22 lines of new text. Thank
god, somebody with a sense of proportion at last.

Eric Welch: four lines of MIME gibberish, 8 lines of quotation with scrambled
linewraps and MIME equal signs at the end of each, three lines of comment
with more gratuitous equal signs, 7 lines of blanks and more MIME header,
30 lines of unintelligible binary gobbledegook (full-screen width filled lines)
obviously generated by some braindead Microsoft mail program, three lines of
MIME trailer. (I've already told you about this problem and how to fix it).

Erwin Puts: four lines of quotation, 29 lines of new text. Whew. Amazing.

Hubert Nowotny: 13 lines of new text, 23 lines of quotation, four lines of
signature.

Joel Tlumak: 40 lines of text with NO QUOTATION OR SIGNATURE!!! Wowee!!!!

Daniel Cardish: one line of attribution (this guy "you" writes a lot, doesn't
he?), 41 lines of quotation, 17 lines of new text, five lines of signature
with a wonderfully informative "=09" stuck on the end.

Seven lines of Digest signature.

The short of it is that the Digest could be a third of its length with NO
LOSS OF CONTENT WHATEVER, if posters would take a more responsible attitude
to editing and set their mail software up correctly. I am on several mailing
lists and this one is by far the worst in this respect.
