So, I tried doing as you suggested, but I suspect your lens and my
lens may be different. My lens is like this:

   | LENS |
   | HEAD |
   | |
\ / head can be unscrewed from grip around here
    | |
    | |
    | L___
    | |___| follow-focus grip
    | |
    +----+
    |____| bayonet lock ring -- can separate from follow-focus grip here
     | |
---- split where 90 degree rotation takes place
     | | textured rubber sleeve, but no screws underneath it
+--+ No way to separate pieces above and below here?
     |__| CANA adaptor
    |____| Canon FD mount bayonet lock ring

The LEA-R adaptor ring is just a single piece of machined metal that
would fit in where the CANA adaptor is in this picture. However, I
can see no way to remove the CANA adaptor piece.

It sounds like your lens has the 90 degree rotating thing above the
bayonet lock ring? Or are your lens and mine the same, and I've just
misunderstood you?

Thanks for your help, and any further help you can give me.
