>> With the metering and the recent discussion over
the zone system, how would you apply that to the M6? I guess what I'm
asking is how do you know what area is being metered & with what
different lenses, since true zone system-ing requires a spot meter. <<

No, Zone system requires nothing of the sort. You could use Sunny 16
rule and still use the zone system, though a spot meter gives you more
understanding of the light as it reflects off different tones.

You just have to understand how film responds to light and development.
How much light does it take to make the film act a certain way when
developed a certain way.

For roll film, you use a bit of overexposure, with a bit of under
development, and you will be able to handle most situations. That's what
N-1 means. Just use different grades of paper for the print. (And the
Zone system isn't trying to get every print to print on grade 2 either,
another mistaken notion of the Zone System).

The main thing about the zone system is you have to do tests and get
control of the process. It has nothing to do with specific equipment or
film .
