This is a Leica lens, built by Sigma. It's got some cosmetic
differences from the same optical formula Sigma lens, and goes through
Leica quality control, but it makes a lot of compromises. It was
introduced with the RE camera, to be an "introductory" camera lens
combination that was significantly smaller amount of money than an R5
and other Leica lens of the time.

But for what it is, it's a pretty good lens, I hear. But only one zoom
is truly Leica quality - the 70-180 2.8 Apo Zoom. And you can get one
for $5,900.
