Marc,

You're right, you can have a zoom for rangefinder cameras (or 
glorified point and shoots like the Contax G1). But you'll need a 
zooming viewfinder, which some do exist, I do belive, but they're 
manual. Talk about compromises! <g>

My point was your blanket statement that using a zoom is an optical 
compromise was what I was challenging, not the fact that it might or 
might not be right for you. But the snobbery, or appreciation for 
quality that exists for Leica M users is about the same as for the R 
users. In fact, more so, because the R has some lenses that are as good 
or better than anything in the M system. Snobbery knows no bounds! :-)
