Looks like the 50mm's are winning here. Of course it's all personal
preference, however, I like wide angles--a lot. I own only one M lens and
it's the 35mm Summicron, and I am happy with the choice. My second lens
would be the 90mm Summicron. I've used a two camera combo with these focal
lengths (35/105 on motorized Nikons) for a long time and find it ideal. I
hope to have this combo on a pair of M6's before I check out. If anyone
wants to let a user go real reasonable...

The reason I like the 35mm is that you can include a lot of environment
without getting the wide angle look, just stay roughly parallel to the
planes in the composition. You also can create a mild wide angle effect by
letting the lines run on 30 angles in the composition, or you can do
anything in between. When you go to 28 and 24 lenses you got lotsa effect
all the time. When you go to 50mm you exclude a lot of the background and
neutralize perspective. Over half of my small format images are done with
35mm lenses and I have six lenghts to choose from. And it is nice when you
can tuck it all in a jacket pocket.
