[Leica] Fakes on Amazon

As I said to Don privately, I am convinced that Amazon has a genuine wish to get rid of fakes on its platform and is engaged in significant activities in that direction. Not perfect, obviously, but seriously trying. Which is more than you can say about the likes of eBay, let alone Alibaba/Aliexpress. The gold standard in weeding out fakes is set by Vestiaire Collective, a French online platform for selling higher-end items (watches, clothing, accessories ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand EUR). There, if the buyer wants to pay an extra 15 EUR, each item is sent to a central facility where the company will check it (they have experts to do that). If the item is genuine, then it is sent to the buyer and the seller gets his money. This kind of approach is obviously only feasible for an e-commerce operation with relatively low volumes.
