[Leica] Help? Lightroom refusing to import

Update a day later. I contacted the photographer, who said that he had 
not put anything into the JPG files to block anything.

I used an online "remove all metadata" site to remove all of the EXIF 
data from one of the images, and Lightroom had no problem with it.

So there is something in the EXIF that is choking Lightroom. I'm 
thinking I might contact Adobe support, but my experiences at contacting 
any company's support department are very negative.

Adobe Bridge used to have a built-in script that would remove all 
metadata from an image, but I don't see it in the current version of 
Bridge.
