I heaar this sort of complaint with some regularity. 

DO NOT CURSE THE BIRD. Thank him. He is actually warning you about some insects which may be attacking your house.

Our most common house threat here from the woodpeckers is when the pileateds want to dig out the carpenter bee larvae. They will also pursue termites and other pests.

They will sometimes use an attrractive drum sound on your house, but this is a rapid drumming, not a digging irregular digging noise.
