It’s not a stupid question ! I always scan the negatives and I edit with Capture One V10

I think your comment is accurate, it is true that the contrast is very high, two ladies in the shade with a high light background, and I think you should necessarily adjust the exposure slightly to avoid leaving them in an area of blocked shadows from which you can not extract any information when you enlarge the photo in the darkroom, the paper abates that contrast better and with a slight doging in the shadow area and a slight burning in the light area you can get a good wet copy, of course using a low degree of paper and maybe a soft or more diluted developer.
