Tnanks Douglas.

The kind of information I need :-)

They are replacing spruce that got that nasty bug and died in a fortnight two years ago. Felling them was heartbreaking.

As to my fingers, they’re safe for at least three or four years as the hornbeam twigs I planted last year must first anchor their roots, and only then will they grow faster I think.

I’ll keep you tuned on my/their progress.

Thanks again.
Amities

Philippe

However, cutting or pruning it during the dormant season will promote a far more vigorous growth. Our hedge cutting man comes in August, restores it to shape, and disappears until the following August.

That may change the optimum trimming and pruning times. Remember that we inherited the hedge here so didn't grow it, and are only the maintainers!

My main concern is we used to, in a former house, have tuhjas that had gone so thick that we had to pull them out and replace. Here I want to keep them as slim as your servant - note that I did not use the word skinny, after confinement ...
