A winter storm called Gloria has been battering Spain since late last week. The worst-hit areas are in the northern half of the country, with lots of snow, hurricane-strength winds, lots of flooding, and a lot of destruction. Here in Alicante we got off relatively easy, and the bad weather arrived later than predicted, on Sunday afternoon/evening. As I write it, on Wednesday, the weather is back to normal; the beach is a mess but otherwise no major problem.

On Sunday afternoon I went down to the beach to have a look and to photograph a rare sight—snow just 30 km from Alicante or so, at the higher elevations (meanwhile, a family was taking a walk on the beach with their dog who jumped in the water several times):

Then the clouds cleared for a brief interlude, yielding this view of El Campello:

Cheers,
Nathan
