Thanks, Don.  That time period can be difficult in genealogy work.  I 
have traced both grandmothers' lines to Revolutionary times and beyond, 
but hit a dead end on the Nichols line in Maryland, where, in the late 
1700s, it appears to be a common name.  Good luck!
