One of my favourite cycling routes is up to the town of Jijona and then on to the Carrasqueta mountain pass. The distance is 35 km and the ride takes me from sea level to 1020 meters altitude. It is also a very pretty road, and of course, once the climb is done, it is all downhill :-)

I did this ride again on Sunday, and since my little Ricoh GRII has been sent to a repair shop in Valencia for sensor cleaning, I took my 10-years old Panasonic GF1 with the 14-42mm kit lens. It worked quite well as a cycling camera and gave me some more flexibility in terms of focal lengths. The image quality is not as good as that of the Ricoh, but for daytime photography it is good enough (the difference is mainly visible at high ISO).

Four images from the ride.

The beginning of the more serious part of the climb. At this stage, I have climbed to about 500 meters and cycled 25 km. Now what is left is the last 10 km and 500 meter to get to the pass:

I had to pee, so I stopped at a place with pretty almond flowers. They are everywhere right now:

About 6.5 km from the pass there is a roadside bar with a large gravel parking lot with homemade tables and benches that is very popular among the many motorcyclists who enjoy the twisty mountain roads on weekends:

And finally, the view from the top:

Cheers,
