I don't know if this is of interest to anyone, but I was going through old
images from when I was still working, and found before and after shots of
the lighting for a shot I did on changing habits of media viewing. This
was to illustrate watching movies on a laptop computer, and was done in the
film department screening room. I wanted to suggest a darkened area, but
still be able to see the setting. It seemed important to show that this
was a space used for traditional movie projection, so I didn't want a dark
void surrounding the subjects. I used a Lowel spotlight to bring out the
edges of the seats, one to backlight the women, two Photogenic mini-spots
to light and edge light the seating, a Lowel Tota-Light to give separation
to the far corner, and needed to use a 25 watt bare light bulb hidden by
the top of the computer to light the faces (the screen would have been too
dim). The upper right spotlight is obscured by a flag that kept the light
from flaring into the lens.
The shot.
