You have succeeded in portraying the quieter side of Oxford, Nathan, such that it could almost have been Cambridge (!!)

The former was once described to me as a Midlands industrial city surrounding a mediaeval university, while the latter: a mediaeval university in the middle of East Anglian agricultural fenland. It was many years ago!

As to continuing to visit these hallowed shores, it will be a pleasure and an honour to sponsor your UK visa application, for as long as the UK survives.

Piers

Subject: [OM] Nathan's PAD 4/9/2016: a rainy morning in Oxford

I have been attending a conference at Oxford University’s Pembroke College since Saturday. Yesterday morning I woke up early and went for a walk around town. It was raining lightly but things improved. Six images from that walk:

The square where Pembroke College is located, at the start of my walk:

A nearby street, a little later; by now the rain had stopped:

Pembroke College, residence halls, where I have been staying the past two nights:

Construction fence with a sense of history:

More recent history and a testament to the trans-Atlantic ties, right next to where I am staying at Pembroke College:

And finally, in a corner of the inner courtyard, a reminder that this privileged corner of England was also touched by World War II:

I love England (and Wales, and Scotland), and it is a bittersweet feeling for me to visit for the first time since June’s disastrous vote. But regardless, I will keep coming back.

Cheers,
Nathan
