Second choice: halve the size of the photosites on the M and the MM sensors (for 96 and 72 Mpx, respectively) to achieve image resolution in line with the inherent resolution of the lens (esp the apo-Summicron). When the need for minimal-noise low-light shooting outweighs the need for maximal resolution, the software can be instructed to “bin” the photosites 2x2 for the same resolution and low noise as the current sensors.
