In the South of India, these temple festivities dedicated to the god Vishnu are easy to document, only a few thousand people come out, and you have the space to go around photographing. In the equivalent festival dedicated to the god Shiva, close to a million people turn up, and that too crammed into roughly the same area - it is at times difficult to literally breathe in the midst of the crowd, so great is the density!
