I have, thankfully, almost never needed medical care but in both France and the UK it has been satisfactory when needed. My mother needs medical help quite often and I always accompany her, since her memory is going. She is always kindly and patiently treated. My sixth grandchild was born last week in the John Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford. I can't imagine anywhere has better care or more delightful midwives. The NHS is pretty good in my experience. I must say I have always been concerned to need medical care in the US. I don't doubt the quality of the care (should I?) but since it is a very profitable "industry" in the US the potential charges scare me sh*tless. Anyway, my present to me when I retired was a promise to never go to an airport again, so a moot point...
