The Nikons are the fastest. It's partly a matter of methodology in measurement. The lag times cited by Leica for the M3-M6 are just for tripping the shutter and assume you have taken up the slack in the shutter release prior to taking the photo, the times for many AF SLRs include pressing through the AF notch to the release point. If you calculate both the same way, the film Leicas are about the same as these SLRs (30-40 ms). I don't tend to walk around with my finger on the shutter depressed right down ready to shoot. I take too many blank frames and photos of the footpath that way. The Leica M8, M9 or Monochrom (and I assume ME, but I haven't seen or handled one to measure the lag) have a lag of about 80 ms. Anything under 50 ms (that's 1/20 second) I can't notice. Anything over it I can.
