They cost more, they didn't zoom. And were spoken of in the past tense. They were harder to follow focus. But they were quiet, low key, and had that glass. You heard the click and watched the picture in the window with the frame line. You saw AROUND the frame line what you were NOT getting. And composed for that as much as for what you WERE getting. With a competitive sensor in the camera now we are now poised for that to happen again. If you were totality committed to reportage photography wouldn't you be wanting to be shooting with a set of : 24mm , 21 and 35 f/1.4 Summilux-M Asphericals? A Wide Angle Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21mm f/4 Aspherical? You sure as hell would be. And for reach a 90mm f/2.0 APO Summicron M Aspherical And for in between maybe a 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux-M Aspherical for moonless nights. Me I love the frame lines and love the glass. I'm a Leica guy. I've shot thousands of rolls of film with the stuff. And I'm looking forward to shooting a lot more I still have my glass. Though the skills I'm needing to develop now are those of finance. They say the real artistic geniuses are the accountants. My 21 and 24 ASPH's are 2.8's not 1.4's I think I'll live. With a Leica M I'd be doing most of my shooting even at night stopped down two or three from that. Its not like the view I'm looking through is going to be dimmer there is no groundglass. I have a 135 3.4 APO and a 90 ASPH APO Summicron. I'm pretty well set up for a Leica 2013 renaissance.
