Few independent documentary photographers are likely (to be in a position) to drop the required cash onto a two body and 3 or 4 lens kit. AFAIR the World Press awards from 2011 were ~90% the prosumer 5DmkII mostly with 16/35, 24/70 or 70/200 zooms. We know a Leica lens will knock spots off the first two lenses (struggles with the longer stuff) but will you see much difference in print or on the web? Yes you will in 1m prints but that is a rarity.... There was not the same competition when HCB or DDD were shooting, who knows what they may have used with the option of a D800E and 24/70 zoom available? john ________________________________________ Well there's the glass made by Leica which has a long revered reputation but in recent history has outdone itself and set the bar even higher. There's the advantages to using a rangefinder camera. No mirror blackout and several hundred times more accuracy. And that fact that its a Leica camera made by the Leica company with a huge long legacy. The legacy of the images taken with Leica camera and the legacy of the revered photographers who use them. HCB, DDD.... RAB... There's an email list for people who value and are into this. Its called the Leica users group.
