It is demonstrable that the new design has less focus shift. Whether you notice in practical use is dependant on how you use the lenses of course. Oh and it costs a young fortune. Surprise surprise. For whatever it's worth they sell on eBay here for at least 20% more than the new list price! Very difficult to find, but that might describe most of the lenses.
