Just like George said, yes, there is a huge amount of resolution, it's
just not magical or unattainable by other means.  Silver iodide is the
slowest silver halide, and the finest grain, the imaging plane is very
flat, and Daguerrotype is a direct positive process.  These all
contribute, but are replicable in safer modern forms, were someone to
decide to make the materials.
