Another group member said it was a Ptarmigan. It was around the base camp, so you would probably have great success stalking it! Sounds like you need to sign up for next outing!! I did see a lot of pheasants <<< At that elevation a pheasant-like bird would either be a Sooty Grouse (forested areas) or White-tailed Ptarmigan (above tree line). I'd be happy with either one - especially the Ptarmigan! Good habitat for Pika too, maybe even Gray-crowned Rosy Finch.
