There is a new M8 version due within a couple of weeks. I have not seen any discussion on what will change in the M8. My guess would be only a version of the new wideangle extra corrections. The M9 has better correction for wideangles and some optimisation (presumably needed to avoid slowing down further with the new extra processing) and minor bug fix. Steve the last offical M9 firmware was FW 1.1.38. The Beta test included some members from the L Camera Forum (about 40 for each camera). So FW 1.162 would include that plus whatever Leica Camera decided themselves.
