Tina,

as a latecomer to this situation I have ead quickly through the threads.
IT does indeed appear that you may be missing - or possibly have
corrupted - som VC++ files. It is- as you have been of course advised
by the experts on the LUG - something that is remediable.

Years ago I got very pissed by Windows XP on a laptop that I had known
and loved for eons and which I knew well. Then MS decided to download me
updates. I simply didn't have disk space that they wanted...it trashed
my machine. I bought a new one with Vista on and it has been remarkably
stable. In fact I am writing from it :-)

Eventually I went dual-boot and use Linux (Ubuntu) a lot of the time. I
have a raft of free and very good photo editing and prep tools available
for any preliminary work I want to do and I have loads of free support
from the guys who wrote it. I can also use Word or I have Open Office
(supported by Oracle) with all the Word functionality abailbale to me
free! I can even supposedly run LR on it, alhough I haven't tried!

I didn't go Mac because they are so expensive and I loathe being tied in
to them so much (an iPhone is enough!. I used then a lot in the early
years and liked them, but price has put an end to that. I object to
paying GBP2000 for something that might get trashed and uses too much
proprietary s/w. Unfortunately Steve is becoming a bit like Bill (he's
just a thousand times better as an engineer, sorry Bill!!).

Sorry not to be able to to be of more direct help.

The LUG is a wonderful thing!

Peter
