All I would suggest, Ken, because I didn't see this in your post, is to keep
backups at different sites (home and office). Couldn't tell if you're doing
this or not but it is prudent IMO.
Best,

My home photo solution is pretty crude but I hope effective. In my PC I
have two WD Caviar 72gb drives, one for programs and one for a PS scratch
disk. There is also a 1.5tb WD internal disk for my images and stuff. Then
there is an external WD 1.5tb drive. The internal drive is copied to it
with SyncBack. That external drive is then copied to another, which is
copied to another. The last two are not connected to power or the PC except
when backing up (one at a time) and are locked up. The external WD drives
cost about $120. I suspect unknown issues since in my firm the storage area
networks, which net to about 1.5tb, cost around $7,000 each :). Then there
are power surges. My home system has two APC UPS units for all the gear.
It looks like a surge got through, causing the motherboard to fail. The APC
UPS at my firm weighs 250 pounds and requires special wiring. So, I get the
idea that with home stuff a lot of redundancy is not a bad thing.
