Sharpening effect (and personal taste!) is source, content, process and
output dependant.  For a dramatic example, a scanned bw negative landscape
made with Leica glass is best treated quite differently to a feminine
portrait made with say a common dSLR and kit zoom. However those were just
my suggestions from my experience for consideration. Fill your boots ;-)
