There is plenty of good data. I've never seen a link between any common darkroom chemicals and pancreatic cancer, but smoking and heavy alcohol consumption are big risks. Having worked with quite a few old school journalists, I think maybe that was their main risk factor for pancreatic cancer. It's variable for other diseases. One interesting thing that there is decent data to support is the results of long term exposure to the neurotoxic effects of phenolic developing agents like pyrogallol, hydroquinone and catechol. It may not be a coincidence that Edward Weston used pyro developers without gloves and ended up with a very nasty and rapidly advancing for of Parkinson's disease.
