Scott,

Geoff is right--for virtually all the members of this group, Leica is a
subset of a wider photographic interest. Most of us have a broad variety of
cameras, some of which are not Leica (or fully Leica) when a great picture
presents itself.

That's the main reason why I opened up the LUG yearbook to LUG members who
may or may not be shooting Leicas--personally, I'd rather see participation
with a person's best images, rather than a self-exclusion because they
didn't happen to have a Leica at that moment, or wouldn't care to share
their Leica-produced images.

Many years ago I belonged (briefly) to a local camera club. They invited
people to bring in images, and then the images were subjected to a
three-person judging panel, who issued Olympics-like ratings via some
electronic clicker system. The scene was absurd enough to become one of my
pictures <g>.

At that point I decided that I preferred photography to be more inclusive,
rather than less. Thus, the philosophy for the book. About the only
restriction on the publication is that we accept only images made during
this year. Presumably, as Leica/camera users, rather than just collectors,
we're out shooting.

Incidentally, with the advent of the M8 (and now M9) the number of
Leica-produced images in the yearbook has been increasing, proving (I
suppose) that when Leica produces great, current technology tools
photographers will avidly use them.

Only two more shooting months until the next yearbook begins!

Best,
Jim Shulman

No longer exclusively though Scott. That is how the LUG has evolved. Leica
interest is a sub-set of photography interest in general for many LUG
members. Jim's project has been very successful and popular as you note.
There ARE some books available from LUG members with exclusively Leica
content if you like to have some alternatives also on your shelf ;-)
