It usually takes about half a magazine for the temperature to get toasty enough. When you have the right optics and condenser, it's really amazing--a marked improvement over my old Carousel (with supposedly premium optics). They made another version that was a CF or curved field that would do regular slides, if I recall. Kodak did that too.
