I think that it was a case of finite resources and Dr Kaufmann committed to bring the S system to market. Very much high end, I agree, but then this is Leica. Leica has committed to the R10, "aber die R10 kommt" :-) As to whether a new R system will be affordable, do you expect to see something competing with say Nikon or Canon or a premium quality Leica system for the discerning? My view is that trying compete directly would be unwise and unsuccessful. In any event, that is pure speculation on my part and I won't comment further. This all arose from my partial quote, which I thought did give fans of a new R system some encouragement. Back to posting pictures. My last two sunk without trace! I think that Dr Kaufmann is pretty serious about > his commitment to Leica. I don't doubt either his seriousness or his sincerity Geoff, I question his strategy, and see that it has nothing to do with me and my real needs. I have enough equipment to take world class photos for the rest of my life, IF my creativity is up to the task. I am the limiting factor, not my equipment... But regarding equipment, as stated, I am sad that the strategy that Leica is following will have nothing to do with me. While it may work, it is very risky, especially in this tough international economic climate, and it may well be a rocky road to disaster for the company. I suspect that the S system, and quite possibly the R system too, will be too rich for me, perhaps for many of us... so I find it prohibitive, even nonsensical, and the world financial realities won't help it...
