Only caution is if you do this with a camera that produces a DNG file as its 
RAW file (e.g., M8). I did this the first time (converted a DNG file into a 
DNG file) and, though I can't remember the specific results, it wasn't 
pretty.

Hi Richard,

All my RAW files reside in one big directory on an external HD. When I? 
import them into LR, I use the "copy to DNG" option. This converts the? 
RAW file to DNG and stores the DNG in a directory on my HD that I have? 
specified. Just one big folder. The RAW files are never touched again,? 
they are there just for backup. The DNG folder is not organized in any? 
way. All the organization takes place using this Collections feature? 
of LR. This is good enough for me. If your needs are different, you? 
can (like Tina) assign keywords and various other pieces of metadata? 
on which you can search later if needed.
